so i was driving around when all of a sudden i started smelling hot coolant through my vents and at the same time my temp gauge was one bar away from the max. i pulled over and noticed my car had a constant green line trailing behind my lude but miraculously i got it home and i finally accepted the fact my ludé is fucked up.
has anyone had a BAD low pressure coolant leak? i already checked the rad as well as the the hoses, so im guessing its the..gulp...waterpump. does anyone think it could be anything else? i need to get it running again [because im having vtec withdraws  ] so if it is in fact the waterpump, does anyone want to make some money replacing it for me so i dont have to get ripped at the shop? ive heard you have to remove the timing belt so i was thinking i might as well replace it while im at it. are waterpumps a common problem? ive never changed one

I would try to track down the leak first. If its coming from the timing cover, then it probably the water pump. But could be numberous hoses. Look at both radiator hoses, hoses going into the heater core (on the fire wall) and hoses going into the head. I had a problem back in the day with a coolant leak and it was just a worn out hose that kept getting torn everytime i tightened down the clamp. It was a hose going into the head.

And yes the water pump is ran off the timing belt. Good idea to change the belt at the same time since your there. But find the leak first.

like they said if its leaking from around your timing belt housing is probably your water pump. just had mine replaced a couple months ago.

I'm not an H22 guy, but my bet would be on the fact that they do use the same parts. I'm sure the camshaft and piston specs are slightly different, but usually all the external parts are the exact same.

If your heater hoses or other hoses in the rear have a large enough tear you can have a pretty good drip at low coolant pressure. Like it's been said, you may want to track down the leak before you point the finger at a larger job such as a pump replacement. Nine times out of ten when I have a coolant leak it's from one of the smaller extremity hoses.

Good luck with your issue!

They are the same part American to JDM market PER YEAR!!! i looked at the part numbers and they are the same
or the replacement part is the same, as the counter country part number a ll obd 1 motors had same as the ob2 motors had same on the honda source i looked through

and the Belt as long as the teeth are right, and it the right length your good to go

I used the timing belt and water pump from a 5th gen h22 USDM parts listing, and they have been on my car about 20K miles now.
